The EU- mediated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia will resume in Brussels on 10 December amidst a tense situation between the two countries despite more than a decade of talks aimed at normalizing the relationship.
“I can confirm that there is an idea that next week to organise a meeting at the level of chief negotiators in Brussels,” Peter Stano, the spokesman for the EU’s foreign policy confirmed to Radio Free Europe on Friday. Stano did not provide any details on the topics of discussions.
Three months have passed since the last high-level meeting between Kosovo and Serbia took place. The last meeting of the Kosovo experts level teams was held on 29 November in Brussels when parties discussed financial claims and property issues.
The EU keeps saying that the aim of the dialogue is reaching of a comprehensive agreement on all open issues. The EU Special Representative on Dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, stated that all specific topics will be part of a comprehensive agreement.
Despite optimism of Lajcak and the EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell that the dialogue is on the right track, the EU diplomats admit, according to the Radio Free Europe, the pace of dialogue is slow, and they say the main reason is the internal political situation in Kosovo.
But it should be mentioned that a location was discovered in Kizevak of southern Serbia last month where human remains suspected to be those of ethnic Albanians killed during the war were found during an excavation.
The Government of Kosovo said in a statement that the coordinator of Kosovo’s delegation in dialogue with Serbia, Ibrahim Makolli, will visit the site. Makolli jointly with the head of the Serbian government’s Missing Persons Commission, Veljko Odalovic, will address the media from the site. Kosovo prime minister Avdullah Hoti said last Monday that the site assessment will start in coming days and the forensic experts of Kosovo will be present at the site.
Serb President Aleksandar Vucic was not allowed to visit Serb inhabited areas in Mitrovica last week as a sign of indignation of Serb genocide against Albanians in Kosovo by Miloshevic regime part of which Vucic has been./argumentum.al
