TIRANA, April 7 – “We will wait for the decision of the European Council and many people hope that this time what would have happened several years ago will happen now and Bulgaria will lift the veto (on North Macedonia),” said on Thursday Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the opening of the accession negotiations of Albania and North Macedonia with the European Union.
In a press conference to present the results of the National Counseling, responding to the interest of journalists, Rama said that “I am not as optimistic as many others, but this does not matter much. I have said and I repeat that the issue of dates is theirs and not ours. Our task is to be doing what needs to be done every day – to make this country a country with the standards of a European Union member state.”
According to him, at the moment that this will not happen, Albania will change the course completely by taking a completely new route.
“We will demand the separation from Northern Macedonia and we will do it in every instance, with every EU government, with Brussels, with everyone. Albania cannot wait for the resolution to a dispute between two neighboring neighbors with whom we have very good relations. We have no problem sitting at the Conference table. We will do our work and the course of our policy in this regard will change completely, “Rama said.
Albania’s talks with the EU are in stalemate because of Bulgaria’s veto on North Macedonia and the Union has followed the pattern of launching the talks with both countries at the same time. This approach is liked by North Macedonia. /Argumentum.al
