TIRANA, June 21 – The Ministry of Tourism reacted on Tuesday after the news circulated in the Greek media on the proposal of the Mayor of Northern Corfu, George Machimaris, for the transfer of water from the ‘Syri i Kaltert’ (Blue Eye), southern Albania, to the Greek island.
The ministry stressed that there is no such agreement and there had been no discussions on a similar project according to news spread by the media.
Among other things, the Ministry said that the allegations, which have been spread, are untrue.
“Based on some news spread in various media on an alleged technical proposal / memorandum of water supply from the source of the ‘Blue Eye’ to Corfu, the Ministry of Tourism and Environment clarifies: There is no such agreement and there were no discussions about a similar project according to the news spread by the media,” said the official statement. According to it, the allegations are untrue. “The ‘Blue Eye’ is a natural asset of Albania, which by the decisions of January 2022 has received a higher protection status, that of the Natural Park with an area increased to 293 hectares, to better protect the Natural Monument bearing the same name inside the park,” said the statement. /Argumentum.al
