TIRANA, October 24 – Albanians will go to the polls to elect the local power officials on May 14, 2023, according to a statement released by President Bajram Begaj.
The President assessed the period until the elections as very important for the successful conclusion of this democratic challenge for the institutions, political parties and the entire Albanian society, as well as emphasized that it is time to demonstrate commitment and institutional cooperation, political maturity and civic responsibility.
President Begaj urged all parties to participate in the upcoming elections with humility and respect for citizens and political opponents.
President invited the voters not to neglect the civic duty of being well-informed about political alternatives and exercising the right to vote, uninfluenced by interests that undermine voting and free will.
Among other things, Begaj underlined that the Electoral Reform Commission has the obligation to speed up the work and address in time all the issues arising from the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR report.
On this occasion, the President appreciated the need to establish political normality in the local government bodies and called on the political parties to participate in these elections with serious and competitive political alternatives, which focus on the citizen and the best democratic standards. /Argumentum.al
