TIRANA, June 13 – US Ambassador Yuri Kim has said Albania is at a critical moment of the fight against organized crime while she praised the government of PM Edi Rama for the anti- corruption fight as never before.
Ambassador Kim made that comment in her remarks at the first National Anti- Corruption Conference held in Tirana.
Having won a reputation of an unwavering supporter of Rama Kim declared: “The Albanian government is very committed to corruption in a way that goes to previous commitments and for this we urge you to go on.”
Kim said that Albania is at a critical moment, when it must decide whether it will be led by organized crime and oligarchs or normal people.
“You are at a critical juncture in your history, you have to literally decide which way to go, to move forward or to go back. Who will own the land, organized crime and only the oligarchs, or normal people who even have the opportunity to own property, develop property and become rich? You have to decide, “said Kim.
Further she expressed the belief that Albanians will make the right choice as they did in critical moments.
“We look forward to working with you,” said Ambassador Kim.
The statement full of praise for Rama came as a former Mayor of Vora, Agim Kajmaku, a pick up of Rama as socialist candidate in local elections, was arrested in possession of 20kg cocaine by Italian police a few days ago.
Kim did not mention this infamous scandal adding to many involvements of Socialist Party loyals in corrupt affairs and brutal crimes especially in Tirana, Elbasan, Shkodra and Vlora. Even Rama hasn’t made any comment on arrest of Kajmaku.
The darkest moment of Rama’s governing is the arrest of former interior minister Saimir Tahiri described by him as the best minister. Tahiri, a rising star in the SP hierarchy, was involved in numerous corruption affairs linked with notorious criminal oligarchs in Albania and abroad.
