TIRANA, May 15 – Albania will not shift its direction either to Belgrade or Istanbul as its western vocation cannot be changed by PM Edi Rama, said former premier Sali Berisha in a meeting with his supporters in the town of Lezha on Sunday.
“I am telling him here that the direction should not be moved by a millimeter because our direction will be the EU. He will not move Albania even to Belgrade or Istanbul. The Albanian will be Albanian at all times in his Western vocation,” said Berisha who is running a tour of meetings in the framework of the election of the new chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) on May 22.
Rama declared in Brussels last week that if the talks with the Union are not opened, they will change the course, a move which has been received with wonder by diplomats and analysts.
In the meantime Berisha said in Shkodra that he seeks the vote not to do what he has done in the past, but to launch another page for the good of young people and Albanians.
“I ask for your vote for a new battle, a new war, in which we together must mark a radical turning point in this country. We must make a great effort to respond to the impoverishment of Albanians. Poverty is a terrible thing,” Berisha said. /Argumentum.al
