TIRANA – The progress of the pandemic has shown a new trend- a significant growth in hospitalizations, with 13 infected people being hospitalized in the last 24 hours, while the number of the new cases dropped slightly to 14 in Albania.
With the additional 14 new cases confirmed the total number of the infected people rises to 1,246. “Out of the 14 new cases, ten are registered in Tirana, two in Shkodra, one in Durres and one in Kruja,” said Genta Qirjako, a specialist at the Institute of Public Health on Sunday. Despite a drop in number of the new cases, Albania is seeing a significant increase in hospitalizations, with 13 added in the last day, she said.
“Most of those affected in the last 24 hours are symptomatic, with clinical signs of Covid-19. There are new hospitalizations bringing about an increase in patients in the infectious diseases hospital, where currently 30 people are being treated, 6 of whom are in intensive care, 2 of them are intubated,” said Qirjako.
During the last 24 hours, 13 citizens have recovered, bringing the number of cured patients to 938 since the outbreak of the pandemic. There are currently 274 active people with COVID-19 in Albania and 70% of them are in Tirana which remains the main hotspot of the pandemic. /argumentum.al
