TIRANA, June 7 – The leader of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha said on Tuesday that there is no quarrel with President Ilir Meta after the “clash” over the decree of the dismissal of Bajram Begaj as Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces which paved the way for him to become Albania’s new head of state.
Asked about the statement of Meta and the chairwoman of the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI), Monika Kryemadhi to submit the decree to the Constitutional Court Berisha said: “No, I am very attentive in that regard. The truth is that the Constitution in its content does not recognize a limit… There are no restrictions if you are in the country or abroad. There is discussion regarding such a situation.”
Further Berisha said he had no quarrel with Meta; the only thing I would have wished was to have prolonged the election of the president to the fifth round and the chances of a fifth round failure were not small.
Asked if Meta was giving a signal for cooperation to PM Edi Rama for a possible cooperation, DP chairman said: “No, I do not think so.”
Berisha said he would cooperate with Meta after the latter ends the presidential mandate. “Without doubt! There is no question about that. It is normal. If we can have differences in such things, nothing will stop us in our battle against Edi Rama,” said Berisha.
President Meta has not denied or confirmed the possibility of cooperation with Prime Minister Edi Rama on Monday when he was asked by journalists.
Asked if he was afraid of another betrayal by Meta, Berisha said: “No I am not afraid, I am not afraid of any betrayal.” /Argumentum.al
