TIRANA, November 1 – The member of the Chairmanship of the Democratic Party (DP), Eno Bozdo said on Tuesday that Albania has the highest electricity price in the Western Balkans with the exception of Montenegro.
Referring to the EUROSTAT report, Bozdo said that other countries in the region have lower energy prices despite being much more exposed than Albania in the energy market and without domestic production resources.
According to Bozdo, the countries of the region have lower energy prices than Albania, because they have applied aid packages for the population.
“Eurostat’s statistics do not take into account the more than 4-fold increase in the price of electricity for households that exceed the monthly 800 kWh limit. With this addition, Albania will remain the country with the most expensive energy in the region,” he said. “The price of energy is high and we will have it four times higher starting today (Tuesday), not because we cannot afford it, but because the government does not care about the consumer, the citizen and the taxpayer,” said Bozdo.
It is not yet clear if the 800 kWh scheme was applied on Tuesday but the confusion created on Monday when PM Rama, chairman of the Socialist parliamentary group Taulant Balla and energy minister Belinda Balluku contradicted each other in their separate statements. Balla, who is considered number two of SP, has not denied the statement of Balluku who was straightforward saying the scheme will be applied, turning down what Balla had said earlier that the scheme would not be applied in November. Also, the PM did not say a word on this issue on Tuesday, which is being followed with concern by the Albanian people. /Argumentum.al
