TIRANA, August 9 – “Oil has become a ‘Sword of Democleus’ hanging over the heads of Albanians. Energy is being misused, not only in an unrestrained scheme of theft of oil and electricity,” said the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP), Sali Berisha at a roundtable discussion with experts in electricity and hydrocarbons in Vlora on Tuesday.
During his speech, Berisha said that PM Edi Rama uses energy as a tool of terror against Albanians. “There is no logic in the world to accept that oil is sold at 3 times the price of the stock markema in Albania, while it was sold at twice the price before. Today it is sold 3 times higher,” said Berisha.
Further he said there is no economic logic to claim that energy will be cut off in the wettest years of a country that has 99.9% of its electricity from water and that has produced 9 terawatts out of 7 that it consumes in total thanks to new sources. “The increase in the price for businesses is devastating, while the market entry of the Albanian energy sector is based on theft,” said Berisha, a former PM.
According to him, Albanians should know that this government bought energy for 250 euros per megawatt at a time when it was sold at 80-82 euros in the stock market. “Albanians should know that energy is bought for 520 euros, when it is sold for 410 euros in the stock market.
(The government) buys energy every 2 days and does not make a tender and there’s a prime minister who terrorizes the citizens and tells them that if no energy was found in the market he will cut it off. He will cut off the power and say it was not found. He considers the energy as a tool of terror,” warned DP head Sali Berisha.
