TIRANA –Orthodox churches across Albania celebrated Easter in overnight services that were largely absent of worshippers due to the restrictions on gatherings tied to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Orthodox believers followed the main mass held in Tirana headed by Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and All Albania
on local televisions some of which broadcasted it live on Sunday morning.
In his liturgy the Archbishop expressed the hope that all people together should find strength to face the coronavirus pandemic.
In the meantime Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou has spoken separately with Archbishop Hieronymos of Athens and All Greece and with Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, and has thanked them for the support they provide to the faithful during the difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sakellaropoulou particularly noted in last Wednesday’s talk with them the inspiring and guiding role of the church, and wished both church leaders happy Easter, according to ANA news agency.
The archbishops called for hope and faith, and expressed the certainty that the rallying of human solidarity will overcome the pandemic and its repercussions.
