European Parliament Rapporteur on Kosovo Viola von Cramon-Taubadel has stated that the idea of changing borders is toxic, so there can be no debate about it.
Von Cramon made that statement in an interview for KosovaPress on Sunday during which she also said that she is looking forward to the final agreement of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue.
“It is important for you, for your citizens in Kosovo, it is important for us in the European Union, because without it there can be no European way for Kosovo,” she said.
According to Ms. Cramon, Kosovo’s long-term perspective should be integration into the European Union. Compromise issues, she said, become more acceptable if visas are liberalized for Kosovo citizens.
“Visa liberalization should be the first step, before the reform phase. I think that Europe must prove that it has done its job, that they will give the green light to the people in Kosovo and then I would say that it will be easier for people in Kosovo to accept a compromise, whatever it is,” she added.
Further, Von Cramon said she absolutely shared people’s perspective that changing boundaries is toxic and there can be no debate about it. It would hurt anyone in the region. “We had a similar debate on Bosnia so we need to distance ourselves and leave that issue behind.”
The representative of the European Parliament predicted an accorda on the Association in the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. According to European Parliament Rapporteur on Kosovo Viola von Cramon-Taubadelr, the model of Republika Srpska in Bosnia should never be followed. / argumentum.al
