TIRANA – The French Ambassador, Christina Vasac has said that any redrafting of the Constitution of Albania can be done by its people.
The Ambassador made that comment in the town of Pogradec on Saturday speaking to journalists on the existence of a project on redrafting the entire Constitution of Albania. She referred to a public pronouncement on this by PM Edi Rama in Parliament as well as President Meta, who, as the Ambassador said, “gathered us, all ambassadors of the EU and the United Kingdom, yesterday (Friday)… It is up to the Albanians and only them to treat this issue.”
According to her, the opposition and ruling majority must cooperate with regard to Constitution amendments, open electoral lists and pre-elections coalitions.
Ambassador Vasac said it is up to Albanians to resolve all these matters and “time will show” whether the deadline to conclude them will be respected.
She also stressed that the current main goal is the normalization of the situation so that the first inter-governmental conference for Albania’s EU accession can be held. “There is a calendar which has been set and time will show whether it will be respected or not. But cooperation of the majority and opposition is needed for us to get a result,” said Vasac.
A decision on the opening of the EU accession negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia was made in the Zagreb Summit last March, but no date was set as a number of ‘home works’ were set for Albania among which electoral and judicial reforms./argumentum.al
