TIRANA, June 27 – Kukës Police announced on Monday that investigations have begun after the poisoning of dozens of citizens by drinking water in the village of Shtiqen in the region of Kukes, northeastern Albania.
The Police authorities contacted the water supply specialists who were aware of the pollution, and then went to the Kukës Regional Hospital, where they found a large number of people from several villages of Kukës, who suffered from symptoms of poisoning.
“The investigative group set up together with the specialists of ISHSH Kukës, has taken water samples at the central warehouse and in the apartments of citizens in which there has been water pollution in order to determine the causes of pollution. We are working to get evidence from the doctors, who have not reported to the law enforcement agencies about this situation,” police said.
Under the direction of the District Prosecutor’s Office, investigations are underway to find out the causes of water pollution and bring the responsible persons to justice.
