The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEFA) announced today that an operation to voluntarily repatriate five Albanian citizens from Syria has been successfully completed. The group includes women and children.
The operation is the culmination of a long and carefully coordinated effort, requiring continuous cooperation among Albanian institutions, diplomatic and consular missions, and the authorities of the countries involved.
MEFA stressed that the repatriation of Albanian citizens from conflict-affected areas demonstrates the state’s responsibility to protect its citizens, even under difficult and complex circumstances.
Their return to Albania marks the completion of an important stage of the process, but not the end of the institutional responsibility toward them.
“Upon their arrival in Albania, the repatriated citizens will receive the necessary assistance and undergo health and psychosocial assessments. The responsible institutions will continue, in a coordinated manner, their work on accommodation, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society,” the official statement said.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs thanked the Albanian institutions and structures involved in the process, as well as the foreign authorities, particularly the Syrian authorities, whose cooperation enabled the completion of the procedures and the safe transit of the citizens.
“The successful completion of the operation demonstrates the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and coordinated action in fulfilling the state’s responsibilities toward its citizens. The inter-institutional Task Force will continue its work both to ensure the full rehabilitation and reintegration process and to repatriate other Albanian citizens whenever the necessary conditions for their safe return are in place,” the MEFA statement concluded.
