The Albanian Parliament approved on Friday the draft decision on the establishment of the investigative commission for the dismissal of the President of the Republic based on the request of a group of Socialist Party (SP) deputies.
With 98 votes in favor and 5 against the Parliament endorsed the approval of the investigative commission to review the allegations on violations committed by President Ilir Meta during the election period of April 25.
This is the second time that the parliament initiates an investigative commission for the dismissal of President Meta. The report of the Laws Committee on the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry that will examine the request of the 49 deputies of the majority was approved with the votes of 98 deputies. The Parliament also approved the composition of the Commission of Inquiry, chaired by Alket Hyseni and Vice-Chairman Myslim Murrizi. The Parliament approved with 97 votes in favor also the composition of the Commission chaired by Alket Hyseni, Deputy Chairman Myslim Murrizi, Secretary Klotilda Bushka and 6 other members.
On Thursday the Law Commission approved the request of the deputies, paving the way for the establishment of the investigative commission for the dismissal of the President.
The plenary session was characterized by very strong speeches on the issue of the dismissal of President Meta. For the head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, this initiative is a moral and constitutional obligation for the majority. Balla said that this initiative aims to remove the great shame from Albania brought by this President. Underlining that the institution of the President has never been raped in such a banal way by Meta, Balla also had a call that is directed to the head of the opposition Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha.
“The DP already has in this hall the deputies who competed in its lists on April 25. It would be in their honor to join us in this initiative,” said Balla.
After the Parliament paved the way for the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry for the dismissal of President Meta, the presidency declared that it will not recognize any decision. In a statement to the media, the media adviser and spokesman for the President of the Republic, Teddy Blushi, said on Friday in a press statement that the President will not recognize any decision or activity of the Parliament, which he considers a “puppet” and in violation of the Constitution because it is “one-party” composition.
“Any product of a fictitious and illegal parliamentary process, which contradicts the principles and values of our democratic society, does not deserve attention and is null and void,” Blushi said, calling the socialist majority a “kleptocratic regime.”

Further on he said no one could hide, neither behind “ethics” nor behind “rhetoric”, because this is a matter of sovereignty. “President Meta knows very well what has happened and is very clear in his plan for what will happen next,” said the President’s spokesman, emphasizing that Meta will exercise his duty until July 24, 2022. /argumentum.al
