TIRANA, April 8 – Many citizens gathered on Friday to protest in front of offices of the Independent Qualification Commission, one of the vetting bodies, against the scandal made public in recent weeks linked with the provincial prejudices that characterize the commissioners of justice reform. The expression “One Mountaineer less”, uttered by Commissioner Genta Bungo regarding the assessment of the Chief Prosecutor from Tropoja, Elisabeta Imeraj, has become the main slogan of the protest.
The lawyer and activist, Adriana Kalaja stressed in her speech that they were not against the vetting reform. But, according to her, hundreds of cases of dismissed magistrates of northern origin have been ascertained during the vetting procedures.
“This is what worries us. Should we expect a product of the vetting process when it is said that this is ‘mountaineer’, dismiss and when it is not ‘mountaineer’, pass ?!” said Kalaja.
While the protest was going on, the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim went to SPAK and met with its head Arben Kraja. The lawyer said that according to the legal provisions this is a clear violation of the Constitution, of the Vienna Convention because at no point do the Vienna provisions allow an ambassado of any country to go and meet leaders of justice institutions.
It’s not known what Kim discussed with the head of SPAK but her influence around that institution is apparent. /Argumentum.al
