TIRANA, October 13 – Prosecutor General Olsian Çela has emphasized the importance of the prosecution body functioning as a whole, avoiding dualities in the general meeting of prosecutors held on Friday.
According to Çela, Vetting as a process has created vacancies in the prosecution body and has not made the job easy for anyone, as well as the implementation of a series of new laws that have fundamentally changed the way the prosecution works. “The objective difficulties that the council is facing prove the need for a review of the relevant regulation, but also for possible changes to the law,” he said.
The top prosecutor said that the cooperation between the KLP and the Prosecutor’s Office should be efficient and according to the provisions in the Constitution. “On the organizational level, the prosecutor’s office must function as a whole, so it is necessary to find a balance between respecting independence on the one hand, but also ensuring efficient mechanisms towards achieving institutional objectives on the other hand.”
He also touched upon the threat of the two prosecutors and according to him, these obstacles and dangers are overcome by being united.
“These days, everyone has followed with concern the announcements about the endangered lives of two of our colleagues due to duty. While on the one hand these facts are serious and should be punished according to the law, on the other hand they should make us more supportive of each other and understand that these are obstacles that we can overcome only by staying together, through commitment to duty from each of us,” he said. In conclusion, the top prosecutor admitted another challenge that is the trust in the prosecution, which is not at the expected levels.
In the meantime, the General Assembly of Prosecutors elected three new members of the High Council of Prosecutors and the winners are Moisi Duda, Olger Eminaj and Vatë Staka. /argumentum.al
