TIRANA, June 15 – A protest against the price increase was organized by the civil society in Tirana on Wednesday. The citizens gathered in Skënderbej Square from where they headed to the Prime Ministry.
Protesters included citizens of different walks of life among whom seniors seeking pension increases. Albania has the lowest rate of pensions in the Western Balkans and the price increases make the life of elderly people very tough.
“We will take to the streets in the hundreds and thousands, and if the prices do not fall, the government will fall,” with these calls, the citizens’ protest against the price increase started.
This is not the first protest since the beginning of rising food and fuel prices as thousands of citizens gathered from different areas of Albania in previous cases.
Even the chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha has called for massive protests but there are no details when they will start.
