In a public statement the chairman of the Union for Human Rights Party (UHRP), Vangjel Dule has held responsible the head of the Democratic Party (DP), Lulzim Basha, who also led the opposition coalition, for the loss of the April 25 considering it an ‘historic failure’ over the last 30 years.
“We failed not only to achieve victory, but also to bring what was expected. It was one of those cases where I was almost in the front line as a candidate and I consider it the historic failure of these 30 years,” Dule said in a talk show on Top News on Saturday.
Dule claimed that the allies have not met with Basha since February this year. According to Dule, Basha has avoided the allies. “The last meeting between Basha and the allies was in February of this year, so we did not have any meetings. This was reflected in terms of votes in the elections of April 25,” said Dule.
Speaking about the situation in the DP, he sees it as problematic emphasizing that it can create a stalemate for the opposition to face the ruling majority.
“In these conditions where DP is, we cannot exercise constructive opposition. We say that there will be problems in forming opposition. A country may have bad luck with governing a country, but the biggest disaster is the lack of opposition,” Dule said.
Basha has also been criticized by leaders of the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI), the head of the National Movement for Development, Dashamir Shehu. But the latter was for the resignation of the current head, Basha and non-return of veteran DP leader Sali Berisha as party head.
The appeals are increasing among the DP members for the return of Berisha at the helm of the party to restore its dignity. Their calls have become public in the meetings of Berisha in different parts of Albania in the frame of Foltore. The next leg of the tour will be Kavaja, a DP stronghold, on Tuesday. It is reported that two-thirds of the signatures of the petition asking to convene the DP National Assembly have been collected which will make important decisions for the future of the largest opposition force in Albania. /argumentum.al
