TIRANA – The balance sheet of the victims by Covid-19 in Albania keeps worsening with 5 fatalities and 154 new infections during the last 24 hours.
In Thursday’s update of the situation by the Ministry of Health, it was announced that the 5 patients who passed away were from 62 to 83 years old bringing the death toll to 213 since the outbreak of the deadly disease in March this year.
“154 people have been confirmed positive with Covid19 after 643 tests were performed on suspects affected by C19 in the last 24 hours,” said Mirela Cami, Director of Health Services Operator, on Thursday. More than half of the total number of the new cases was registered (84) in Tirana.
“Currently, 114 patients confirmed positive with Covid19 are being treated and 19 of them are in intensive therapy, while 4 are intubated in the hospitals of Infectious Diseases and “Shefqet Ndroqi,” she said.
COVID-19 statistics on 13 August 2020 are as follows: total testing 48,319; positive cases 6,971; cured cases 3,616; active cases 3,142 and fatalities 213.
Former Democratic Party MP and professor, Aleksandër Biberaj, through a note on his FB account on Thursday, asked President Ilir Meta to urgently call the National Security Council to discuss the situation in hospitals at a time when the virus is advancing rapidly.
Such a worrying concern is being expressed insistently by dozens of specialists some of whom wonder why PM Edi Rama has shut his mouth saying not any words when now Albania is at a real war against coronavirus.
Biberaj was also prompted to call for the meeting of the National Security Council because of the last tragic event in the COVID 2 hospital, “Shefqet Ndroqi”, where a 29-year-old patient, who was being treated for coronavirus for 4 days, has chosen to commit suicide on Thursday morning.
“The President of the Republic must urgently convene the National Security Council on the Covid issue as the situation is out of control at the hospitals,” said Biberaj./argumentum.al
