TIRANA, July 6 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama paid a visit to North Macedonia on Thursday which was the first leg of the two-day tour in 5 Western Balkan countries having as main focus discussion on the scheduled meeting of the Berlin Process in Tirana. Albania chairs the initiative during 2023.
Kovacevski and Rama discussed the common challenges of the two countries in a face-to-face meeting, after which they gave a press conference.
“Today it was our pleasure to host our friend Edi. Our countries do not give up on our European goals. We take steps for the democratization of our countries in the course of this path. The undertaking of the Berlin Process was also in this direction,” Kovacevski said.
According to him, mutual recognition by North Macedonia and Albania for certain professions and free movement between them are their common goals, but also for the region in general.
Further he said the Berlin process is important for the initiatives we will undertake in energy, economy, health and other areas where the regional countries have common challenges. But, according to him, the Open Balkans gave concrete results for Macedonia, Albania and Serbia.
“This initiative will continue to offer innovation,” he said although Rama declared a few days ago that ‘Open Balkans’ had concluded his mission.
It remains to be seen what the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic will discuss with PM Rama in Belgrade on Friday because the former has declared that ‘Open Balkan’ is not over.
For his part Rama said in the press conference that he had a very useful discussion with Skopje’s PM in the conditions when Albania will welcome the Summit of the Berlin Process in Tirana.
Rama was accompanied on the visit to Skopje by Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi. /argumentum.al
