The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Albania, Mr. Anar Huseynov, says that Azerbaijan is ready to provide gas to Albania, but it needs the necessary infrastructure for this and the final decision of the Albanian government is expected if it means yes to the proposal of Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan is ready to supply gas to Albania. Albania is part of the TAP pipeline but we would be very pleased to have Albania as a member of the family of direct gas beneficiary countries. From this point of view, Azerbaijan is ready to consider Albania’s proposals to receive gas from our country. But everything depends on the energy policy that your country will follow, it depends on the priorities that Albania has. We can sit down together in talks to discuss medium- and long-term cooperation in the field of energy to provide natural gas to Albania. As far as I personally understand, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Ilir Bejtja visited Azerbaijan on behalf of the Albanian government and he participated in an event organized for the TAP pipeline on February 4. He met with his Azerbaijani counterparts, but as I understand it at the moment, Albania is considering this issue, seeing the prospect of having a possible cooperation with Azerbaijan, which is open for cooperation and to offer you gas,” the Ambassador, Huseynov said in an interview with local media.
It should be recalled that the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) was held in Gulustan Palace, Baku, in early February this year. Albania was represented by Ilir Bejtja, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Energy In this meeting.”TAP is a very important opportunity, considering natural gas a strategic and very important source of energy to support the future sustainable development of our country,” he said.
In the meantime it is worth noting that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan himself, Mr. Ilham Aliyev expressed the desire for Albania to be not only a transit country for the TAP gas pipeline project but also a beneficiary country of Azerbaijani natural gas.
