TIRANA – There were125 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and a fatality was registered, bringing to 200 the death toll in Albania, said the Ministry of Health in its update of the data of coronavirus situation on Monday.
Dr. Rovena Daja from the Institute of Public Health (ISHP) said that there has been an increase in the number of confirmed cases, as well as the number of tests in over 1/1000 inhabitants in the past week.
The incidence of COVID-19 disease in Albania until last week is 214.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. At the county level, the highest incidence of the epidemic is in Tirana followed by Durres and Shkodra, while the city with the lowest incidence is Elbasan.
The average age of confirmed infected cases was 47 years. The 55-64 age group had the highest percentage of those affected with 19.7% of confirmed cases followed by the 25-34 age group with 18.5% of those infected.
According to Ms. Daja, currently 122 patients confirmed positive with Covid19 are hospitalized at the Infectious Diseases and “Shefqet Ndroqi” hospitals with 19 patients in intensive therapy and 3 intubated.
