TIRANA – Some 231 tests made during the last 24 hours have disclosed 9 new cases of persons affected with coronavorus, said on Saturday the deputy health minister, Mira Rakacolli, who noted that the total number of coronavirus pandemic infected peoplehas climbed to 548.
“In the last 24 hours, 231 people suspected of being carriers of the virus, or sick with COVID-19, were tested. The test results confirmed 9 positive cases with COVID-19. Of the new cases, 5 were in Kurbin, 2 in Kukës. , 1 in Tirana, 1 in Fier. So far 5311 suspected cases have been tested and out of them 548 cases or about 10% of all tested are found with COVID-19,” said the health official.
Ms. Rakacolli quoted epidemiologists’ comments as saying that it indicates a good control of the epidemic and a sufficient number of tests were carried to assess the situation.
“In the last 24 hours, 19 other patients have been added to the list of the recovered persons, bringing the number of the cured patients to 302,” stressed Rakacolli, who said that currently there are 220 active infected people in Albania and as it can be seen, the number of those recovered is higher. “This trend has been continuing without fluctuations for 7 days.”
However, she revealed that 26 citizens have lost the battle with this disease, despite medical staff efforts. “We would like to inform you that there are currently 35 patients in the infectious disease hospital. 7 patients are in intensive care. There are 8 patients at the COVID 2 hospital “Shefqet Ndroqi”.
According to the ministry, despite fluctuations in daily numbers, the situation in the country is under full control.
“Despite the fluctuations in the daily numbers of virus carriers or patients confirmed with it, the situation is under full control. The real indicator is the number of hospitalized, which continues to remain stable, and it is lower than 15% of the active affected people,” said Rakacolli.
In another event, the health ministry rejected the claims of the opposition Democratic Party (DP) regarding the tender for the protective equipment of the medical staff. “The procedures for the purchase of the personal protective equipment for the doctors and nurses dealing with this epidemic have been in line with the legislation in force,” clarified the ministry.
