“I expect justice, law and order!” says former minister Cani after testifying to SPAK

TIRANA, January 30 – The former Minister of Finance, Shkëlqim Cani, was summoned on Monday to the Special Prosecutor’s Office, SPAK, where he was questioned for nearly two hours and 30 minutes as a person with knowledge of the investigations related to the privatization of a bakery in Tirana in violation of the law.

The report was made in September 2022 by the former owners of the land who claim that they have acquired the right to the return of the property not only by the decision of the AKKP, but also of the Supreme and Constitutional Court. But several ministries, including the one of Finance, have conducted an auction procedure for the privatization of the object and the land where another subject and not the owners won.

Former minister Cani did not speak about this issue as he said that he had signed a statement about investigative secrecy at the prosecutor’s office. “I signed for investigative secrecy,” said Cani.

The former head of finance reiterated his stance against incinerators in a letter of opinion to the environment ministry in 2014.

“No. The letter has come out, it has been published. I signed all the papers… It doesn’t matter what I say, when it’s written. What I wrote, you read it very well. I have nothing to repeat,” said Cani.

Former minister pointed out that he is ready to testify to SPAK regarding the incinerators, but so far he has not been asked to do so. “Ask SPAK when it intends to call me and if it will ask me. I have been through so much in my life that nothing surprises me. I am willing to come forward to tell the truth and only the truth. I expect justice. Law, justice and order,” said Cani.

Asked about the fact that his predecessor Arben Ahmetaj signed the incinerator project that Cani had rejected, the former minister stressed that it is the Prime Minister (Edi Rama) who should be asked about the activities of the ministers. “Ask Rama about that,” said Cani. /Argumentum.al
