TIRANA, November 11 – The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has said that the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue cannot move forward without mutual recognition. In an interview with Deutsche Welle on Friday, he said that the current situation in the north of Kosovo is instigated by Belgrade to cover the rejection of the Franco-German proposal.
Kurti said that he does not oppose the association of municipalities and indicated that Kosovo currently has association of municipalities, 38 in total.
“But I cannot accept the association on the basis of ethnic identity. Politics on the basis of ethnicity is not possible. So an association on the basis of ethnicity cannot be created, because this contradicts our Constitution. This fact is also confirmed by a decision of our Constitutional Court in December 2016,” he said.
Kurti and President Vjosa Osmani are in Paris invited by President Emanuel Macron and as it has been reported the resolution to the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia was discussed on the basis of the latest Franco-German scheme.
Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic is in Paris, too.
The US reiterated its frustration over the stance of Kosovo against Serbian association.
