Albania hopes for the official opening of accession negotiations with the European Union, which have been stalled for several years.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is cautious, although he thinks his country should “normally” get the green light from Brussels.
In an interview that Prime Minister Edi Rama gave to France 24 television a few days ago the belief is expressed that Albania is involved in a “battle” to reform its judicial system in the face of corruption.
In front of the journalist Caroline de Camaret, the head of the government comments the case of the former chief prosecutor, Adriatik Llalla.
“If the former chief prosecutor, and former personalities of the judiciary and politics are convicted, it is a good signal for the rule of law,” Rama said.
As he focused on integration, Rama said he was not surprised by anything in Brussels. “It must be said that before the pandemic it was decided that negotiations would be opened. The decision was then made to postpone the conference. I am already waiting and nothing surprises me in Brussels, because there are internal dynamics every day, there is a history that is difficult every day,” he said.
Among other things, the Prime Minister focused on the April 25 elections, and said that they were recognized by the OSCE / ODHIR.
Rama also praised the EU decision to open its doors to Albanians, while saying that good job has been done that is serious and with results that have been appreciated by the whole world.
“All of Albania is at the top of the European list for mass vaccination and with optimal figures for infections and fatalities. I personally did Pfizer, but instead we have all four vaccines. We have Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Sputnik,” said PM Rama. / argumentum.al
