TIRANA – Seized in the humanitarian crisis at the border crossings with Greece where thousands upon thousands of travellers have been stranded since many days an appeal was made by President Ilir Meta to the government not to treat citizens as people without motherland and state.
“I repeat the strong call to the Albanian government to stay close to the citizens and to take all measures for information with transparency, to make C-19 tests where they are located free of charge,” said Meta on Sunday.
In the meantime he advised for the contacts with Greece to be constant and only in function of an immediate solution. “Acts of force are unacceptable!”
The President conveyed the following appeal to Athens:”I urge the Greek authorities, in respect of the spirit of good neighborliness and strong traditional ties between the two peoples, to do their utmost to resolve the situation, the images of which embarrass both countries. Every citizen of the Republic of Albania deserves to be treated with dignity.”
There have recently been calls from different personalities for the President to gather an emergency meeting of the National Security Council in face of the Biblical situation in southern border with Greece. /argumentum.al
