TIRANA – The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a telephone conversation on Wednesday with his Albanian counterpart, Edi Rama, his first communication with a leader after the beginning of March, according to Greek media.
“Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday spoke on the phone with his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, discussing the measures taken against the coronavirus pandemic as well as the policy for gradually exiting the lockdown and lifting restrictive measures, so that connections between the two countries can be restored,” said ANA news agency
In a revelation on this conversation PM Rama told a local TV The that the discussion with his Greek counterpart had to do with coronavirus crisis in their countries.
Prime Minister Edi Rama unveiled this Wednesday what he talked about on the phone with the PM of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The discussion had to do with coronavirus crisis in their countries, said Rama who was more concrete when he unveiled that they talked on the strategy on coronavirus testing. Emphasis was also put on issues such a teaching, touristic season’s opening.
“I have discussed the testing strategy, learning process, plan for opening of the tourist season, but also other issues,” said Rama. Another issue of the conversation was the question of Albanians stranded out of Albania. According to Rama, citizens blocked in Greece will not be penalized if they have stayed more than 3 months there. “I take this opportunity to say that those that have remained outside the Albanian border due to COVID-19 will not be penalized, even in case they have stayed more than three months,” Rama said.
In the meantime daily Kathimerini reported on Wednesday that pharmaceutical supplies and medical equipment have been sent to ethnic Greeks in Albania by the Attica Regional Authority and the association representing relatives of soldiers that died on the Albanian front during World War II. The supplies were handed by the Consul General of Greece in Gjirokastra, southern Albania, to the medical center of the municipality of Dropull on Wednesday.
Similar assistance for the other Greek minority municipality of Finiq in the prefecture of Saranda will also reportedly be provided in the coming days. Moreover, the Greek Consulate announced that next week, medical and pharmaceutical material from Greece will also be provided to the Regional Hospital of Gjirokastra./argumentum.al
