TIRANA – In a move for the creation of a new government the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), which as the second largest party has been asked by President Hashim Thaçi to form a new government, signed on Wednesday a coalition agreement with the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK). The former premier Ramush Haradinaj, who is also chairman of AAK, made the announcement according to which his party will have the post of the first deputy prime minister and four ministries in the new government which is expected to be created under a broad coalition of LDK with junior parties.
The government of Albin Kurti, head of Vetevendosje (Self-determination), the largest political party in Kosovo, was ousted in a non-confidence vote of Parliament on March 25 this year which was initiated by LDK led by Isa Mustafaj. Kurti has claimed that President Hashim Thaçi and some political parties are violating the Constitution by pushing for a new government instead of holding new elections in the country as provided by the Constitution.
AAK Chairman Haradinaj, who was former Prime Minister of Kosovo, said on Wednesday that his party will have four ministries and the position of first deputy prime minister. “Besnik Tahiri will be the first deputy prime minister, the Foreign Ministry will be headed by Meliza Haradinaj, the Ministry of Justice by Selim Selimi. Blerim Kuci will be the Minister of Economic Development and Rame Lika will be the Minister of Education,” said Haradinaj on Twitter as quoted by local media.
The LDK will need at least 61 votes in the 120-seat parliament of Kosovo to get the backing for their government. LDK which has 28 deputies is expected to sign coalition agreements with Nisma (4), AKR (2), Serbian List (10) and other minority parties (9), besides today’s deal with AAK (13).
This development on Kosovo political scene takes place against the background of two information: the flight from Switzerland to ‘Mother Teresa’ Airport in Tirana of Behgjet Pacolli, Chairman of the New Kosovo Alliance party, and the arrival in Albania of President Hashim Thaci through the border checkpoint in Vermica. Media reports reveal that Thaci stayed in Tirana for several hours returning to Pristina last Tuesday night, and clouds of mystery veiled the visit as it is not known even who accompanied him.
It is unknown if the presence in Tirana of Thaci and Pacolli at the same time in Tirana is linked with the latest political developments in Kosovo. /argmentum.al
