TIRANA – Ambassador Luigi Soreca, Head of EU Delegation to Albania, has delivered to the Albanian Minister of Health and Social protection Ogerta Manastirliu the second part of EU’s assistance to Albania for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19, said a press release issued by the press office of the EU Delegation in Tirana.
The delivery ceremony took place on Monday at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana and the second part of the equipment, support for the Albanian health institutions, was handed over by Soreca to Health Minister Ogerta Manastirliu, as part of the agreement with the European Union on medical assistance to cope with the pandemic caused by COVID-19.
The delivery consists of five fully equipped life-safe ambulances, fifteen portable mechanical ventilators and other specialised equipment for the most severe cases of respiratory deficiencies.
The first delivery took place in May and consisted of protective equipment and supply against COVID-19. The overall commitment of the EU for Albania in the fight against COVID-19 is EUR 4million for medical equipment and almost EUR 50 million for social protection and support as well as for economic recovery.
In her remarks the Minister called for increased attention of all citizens to respect the rules so that the spread of COVID-19 can be limited, while the health system is being prepared to build capacity.
On his part, EU Ambassador to Albania Soreca said the European Union will continue to stand by Albania and the countries of the region, like on the first day of the epidemic. /argumentum.al
