TIRANA – Albania is doing really the best along with Sweden with regard to the situation created in Belarus after the contested parliamentary elections by opposition which have prompted a strong reaction by the EU.
Albania’s involvement was mentioned by its PM Edi Rama in the capacity of the Chair-in-person of OSCE in a note on Twitter on Thursday.
“I am proud of the fact that despite the cursed time of the pandemic, our OSCE leadership has successfully carried out the promised work and gained international respect and trust, as clearly shown by the EU reference to the OSCE bid over Minsk,” said Rama, who announced the recent frequent communications with high-level actors in the EU and others.
But the government head who is also chairman of the ruling Socialist Party (SP) paid more attention to his quarrels with those who criticize him starting such an important information related to OSCE’s role in Belarus with the following comment: “Some Albanians of big politics who fly high are getting angry because I did not go to Minsk and I missed a chance for Albania! In Minsk, the OSCE does not go for selfies in protest, but to communicate with the government and the opposition, which requires the approval of both parties.”
As a matter of fact Rama is not in a comfortable position as OSCE’s Chair-in-person due to the accusations against him and his party for violations of previous elections as well as for the latest unilateral constitutional changes on electoral issues and putting in question the 5 June Accord on electoral reform reached with the opposition through the mediation of the international strategic partners in Tirana. /argumentum.al
