The Special Court of Appeals sentenced former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri to 3 years and 4 months in prison for abuse of office on February 4 this yearThe court decided to uphold the decision of the first instance, by amending, the non-implementation of the probation service.
The full written decision of the Court with 280 pages of reasoning was made public on Monday. Among other things, the Court stated that despite the denial of acquaintance with Moisi Habilaj, in the analyzed evidence it turns out the opposite for Saimir Tahiri.It mentions the former minister’s boat, but also the gifts that were sent to him and his wife by Habilaj. It turns out that the defendant in the related proceedings Moisi Habilaj was directly engaged in sending the vessel in use by the defendant Saimir Tahiri, then Minister of Interior, using his name and credentials before the Vlora captaincy, traveling to Italy round trip for this purpose only.
The Court also recalls that Tahiri’s wife and himself in some cases of travel abroad have accepted the services of Artan Habilaj, the defendant’s brother in related criminal proceedings and of which it is proven that he has known since 2013 on the activity of the structured criminal group. Currently, former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri is serving a sentence of 3.4 years in jail in Fier prison. /Argumentum.al
