TIRANA, May 22 – The deadline set until 16:00 of Sunday to nominate names as candidates for Head of State has not been respected because no name has been proposed either by the majority or the opposition in the second round of voting in parliament.
The Conference of Chairmen convened last Tuesday decided that by 16:00 on Sunday the candidates with 20 signatures of opposition deputies be submitted to the Chairmanship of the Assembly and the Law Commission would meet initially in the morning to review the names and in the afternoon to hold a voting session. .
Although the week began with a pact between the majority and the opposition giving the latter the right to nominate candidates in the second and third rounds, the consensus lasted less than 48 hours.
On Friday morning, the Socialist parliamentary group issued a short statement recalling that the agreement between the parties is for the opposition to bring a name to the second and third rounds, which should have the so-called supporting signatures.
So MPs would vote for a name that came with the signatures of at least 20 opposition MPs in Parliament on Monday. Democrats have reacted through the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group, Oriola Pampuri, who has once again published point 4 of the DP document, according to which the faction of DP had agreed that the final name proposed for the second round should have the support of all parties, that is to be co-proposed.
This was rejected by the SP parliamentary head, Taulant Balla who in his reply to Enkelejd Alibeaj, self proclaimed DP parliamentary head, said that in any case Socialist Party has the majority to elect the president in the 4th or 5th round with the votes of 71 deputies in the 140-member parliament . /Argumentum.al
