TIRANA, August 15 – If 13 years were needed for Albania to open negotiations with the EU it might be a full- fledged member of the Union after a decade.
This was unveiled by PM Edi Rama in an interview for the French newspaper FranceSoir. He considered the process of the opening of the negotiations as a delay in the integration process by the EU.
“After 10 years, Albania will probably be in the EU if the Union remains as it is now. In fact, the world today changes very quickly, just look at the current situation. Without tragedy, Albania will be in the EU after 10 years, and we will do everything to achieve this,” said Rama.
It is the first time that the Albanian premier casts doubts on the future existence of the EU after this decade.
Speaking of tourism, the Prime Minister said that Tirana has become the second most visited country in the Balkans after the pandemic. “This year is surprising, because we have an unexpected number of tourists. For example, Tirana has turned out to be the most visited place after Antalya, since the end of the pandemic. We did not expect this,” he said.
According to Rama, the forecast was for 2.9 million arrivals in Albania, and in fact the number of 4 million tourists will be exceeded by the end of the year. “However, even though tourism is an important source of income to be exploited, because our country has a very large potential, we want to use it in a well-thought-out and reasonable way to develop the country without destroying what we own.”
Further Rama addressed the French telling them if they want to discover a country where a part of the past is still present, this country is Albania. “It is a real journey into the past, in nature, in hospitality, in gastronomy,” said Rama. /Argumentum.al
