TIRANA – The Electoral Reform is in its final stage of conclusion but the gist of it has been removed as there will not be a change of the electoral system, said former Foreign Minister Besnik Mustafaj in a talk show on “News 24” TV on Thursday. Mustafaj said that the ambassadors who are involved to mediate the agreement between majority and opposition are holding the side of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
“The main objective of the reform should be not to steal elections anymore. The administration is totally political. Ambassador Kim should have read at least the ODIHR report in 2019, which said the administration is politicized. The government is also using teachers for elections. The phrase “the ball is in Basha’s court” is public pressure. I do not agree with the behavior of the ambassadors,” said Mustafaj.
In addition Mustafaj, who has been a senior DP official, said that the united opposition should not accept majority’s Damian Gjiknuri at the electoral roundtable, while adding that Rama and Basha want to maintain the political status quo.
“The file of Durrës and the file of Peshkopia confirm the revenge of the Rama government to keep the power. In my opinion, the opposition has not been coherent regarding the demands for the Electoral Reform. The opposition is a victim in its entirety. I believe there will be no result in the reform. Berisha did not give up in face of pressures. Rama and Basha want to maintain the status quo,”Mustafaj said.
Regarding the new government of Kosovo, he said that Hoti’s government has the minimum of political legitimacy. “Former PM Albin Kurti has not given any evidence of anti-Americanism. I think that Kurti, who according to me has a future in Kosovo politics, should analyze himself and be surrounded by people who dare to say no to him,” said the former FM.
In a comment on the Hoti government he thought it is a government with a minimum of legitimacy, which has only 61 votes in parliament. “In his speech as prime minister, Avdullah Hoti said the economy would recover, but did not talk about fighting corruption,” said Mustafaj. /argumentum.al
