TIRANA – “The virus must be taken as seriously as possible by citizens and it affects all ages,” said the well- known doctor, Tritan Kalo in an appeal launched on Saturday to Albanian citizens not to be cheated by foolishness whereby the virus does not exist.
Local health authorities announced on Saturday that 61 new coronavirus cases were registered and during the last 24 hours and the death toll due to the disease amounted to 53 as four victims were reported over the last two days.
The total number of infected people has reached 2,330 and 1,346 patients have recovered since the virus outbreak on March 9 this year.
It is officially reported a disturbing situation at the Infectious Diseases Ward where 81 patients are being treated and 12 are in intensive therapy with 2 in intubation.
In a detailed update Genta Qirjako, a specialist at the Institute of Public Health, said 355 tests were performed to persons suspected of being affected by Covid-19, of which 61 positive cases resulted positive during the last 24 hours. A significant number of cases are related to multi-employee enterprises, while investigation into new cases continues.
Capital Tirana leads the list of the affected people with 12 cases followed by Vlora (11), Durres (7), Kukes (5), Divjaka (5). In the meantime cases varied from 3 to 1 respectively in Puka, Korca, Kurbin, Kruja, Shkodra, Fier, Lezha, Has, Mirdita, Kama Saranda, Fushe-Arrez, Selenica, and Belsh . The total number of active people with COVID-19 stands currently at 931 mainly in Tirana, Shkodra, Durres.
“Given the fact that there is an increase in cases at business activities, enterprises with many employees, public and private institutions in recent days, we appeal to everyone: Please respect the rules!” said Qirjako.
In his repeated public warnings Dr. Kalo brought to the attention of Albanians what is happening around the world due to the new virus. “I recall that Covid-19 can affect every age. It can take the lives of citizens of every age. Patience and care for ourselves and others are fundamental to face this challenge,” said Dr. Kalo./argumentum.al
