TIRANA – The escape of former mayor of Vora Agim Kajmaku has ended as he was arrested late on Monday and was placed in the premises of a private hospital in Tirana, said police sources.
The Prosecution signed the arrest warrant for Kajmaku on November 11 last year, but since then he has been at large escaping police for months.
He was initially denounced by the opposition Democratic Party for hiding the sentence in Greece for counterfeiting money. Greece acquitted him, and in 2003 he was wanted for counterfeiting banknotes and was not arrested after fleeing to Albania.
But Kajmaku hid the case in his decriminalization form, leading to his dismissal as mayor a few months after taking office.
Kajmaku was declared wanted after the CEC fired him, while he continued to behave as mayor by signing the dismissal of the two deputy mayors of Vora, Laureta Omerni and Hekuran Brahimaj, electing Gent Picari to the post. The latter was later fired.
The prosecution accuses the former mayor of 3 criminal offenses, that is “Counterfeiting seals, stamps or forms”, “Falsification of documents” and “Performing the function after the end of the duty”. /argumentum.al
