TIRANA – Albanians who were stranded in Warsaw because they were not allowed to enter Poland have already returned to Albania by charter plane, an announcement released by Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
According to the announcenent, the return happened immediately on Sunday morning when they arrived in Rinas airport in Tirana.
The Foreign Ministry considers a sudden decision of Poland to change the regime of entry of Albanian citizens in that country exactly on Saturday.
“Suddenly, Poland has changed the regime of entry of Albanian citizens in Poland,” said the foreign ministry in its explanation why Albanian citizens were not allowed to enter Poland.
“Due to this change, on Saturday, August 15, 2020, Albanian citizens, who departed on a trip to Warsaw airport with the Polish Airlines, LOT Airline, were not allowed to enter Poland,” said the foreign ministry.
Albanian Embassy in Poland, in close communication with some citizens stranded at the Warsaw airport, immediately communicated with the local authorities and the executives of the airline LOT Airline, managing to make a charter aircraft available to citizens for them to return to Albania on early Sunday morning, said the announcement.
The denial of Albanians to enter Poland happened as a biblical caravan of travellers continue to be stranded in southern Albania check points with Greece which has imposed strict measures for entering that country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. /argumentum.al
