TIRANA, May 15 – A meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), in the format of Foreign Ministers, held in Berlin over the weekend, preceded the NATO summit in Madrid in late June focusing on Ukraine, the consequences of Russian aggression on the security of the alliance, the membership of Finland and Sweden as well as the strategic concept of NATO.
Foreign Minister Olta Xhaçka underlined the support for the membership of Finland and Sweden for which Albania is taking measures to soon start the relevant procedures.
Regarding the situation in Ukraine, she said that the union is the key to the collective security of the alliance, while following the support that Albania has given to Ukraine, she indicated that Albania will be part of the new combat group in Bulgaria.
“We will all do everything we can to give Russia the message of a united alliance,” said the Albanian chief diplomat.
According to her, NATO should pursue an open door policy for other Western Balkan countries, including Kosovo, which shares the same values, as a contribution to the security of Europe as a whole.
Minister Xhaçka met with Ukraine’s counterpart Dmytro Kuleba on Saturday, and underlined that Ukraine deserves a perspective towards the European Union. /Argumentum.al
