TIRANA, November 14 – The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovačevski said his country and Albania share a common goal, which is membership in the European Union.
Kovačevski made this statement in his opening speech at the joint meeting of the governments of the two countries held in Skopje on Monday.
“Together we can do more, that’s why we have achieved much more than could be thought over the last several years. Relations between North Macedonia and Albania have never been better than today. We are an example of how two neighboring countries can cooperate and overcome challenges,” he said. According to him, now everything is in our hands. “We expect the deputies to show responsibility and quickly move towards the EU.”
Further Kovačevski noted that after the membership in the Union the two countries will ensure a better quality of life for their young people. “Let’s help each other. This is the second meeting after the one in Tirana. We are advancing the cooperation between us in a time of challenges and crises,” he said.
At the joint press conference at the end of the meeting, Kovacevski said that the “Open Balkans” initiative is an original idea that will help the citizens.
“Open Balkan” should not scare anyone, on the contrary. It is an original idea, not only of politicians, but also of businesses, the community, and the citizens of RNM, Albania and Serbia,” he said.
According to the PM, the only remaining borders are the borders in the Balkans, specifically the borders between North Macedonia and Albania, between the Republic of Macedonia and Kosovo, between the Republic of Macedonia and Serbia.
“We testified with Edi Rama and we testified with Aleksandar Vucic, but also with Bulgaria and Mitsotakis, that we do not need these borders because these peoples who live in these territories are brother peoples, whose politics over the years have made them not live well between them. Today we have politicians who are working so that we don’t have these borders anymore,” said the Prime Minister of North Macedonia. /Argumentum.al
