TIRANA, December 11 – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Olta Xhaçka reacted on Sunday to the tense situation in the north of Kosovo, strongly condemning the attack on EULEX and the Kosovo Police.
Xhaçka said in a post on Twitter that it is important to establish calm and the rule of law.
“Albania strongly condemns the attacks on Eulex Kosovo and the Kosovo Police in the north of Kosovo. We join the calls of our international partners for the immediate removal of the barricades set by the Kosovo Serb groups. It is important to restore peace and the rule of law,” the FM said.
Also, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted to the tense situation in the north of Kosovo, saying that the attacks on EULEX and the Kosovo police are reprehensible. Belgrade should exert its influence on the Serbs of North Kosovo, without justifying their actions, said Rama in a post on Twitter.
“Attacks on EULEX Kosovo are unequivocally reprehensible, just as any act of violence against the Kosovo police is reprehensible. The reappearance of the barricades in the North of Kosovo contradicts every law and every spirit of dialogue and not only does not solve anything, but rather complicates everything further,” he said.
Further Rama said the postponement of the voting for local elections in 4 communes in the north by the President of Kosovo is a meaningful signal to which the high authorities of Belgrade must respond with the same spirit and sense of responsibility in order not to allow further escalation of destabilizing acts.
“Belgrade must exert its influence on the Serbs of the North of Kosovo without justifying their actions, whatever the reasons. The reasons can be discussed, they should not be used as a weapon against the police or as a barricade against the legal order. The EU should urgently hold the dialogue table,” concluded Rama in his post. /Argumentum.al
