TIRANA – Opposition has said that the majority continues to reject its proposals reiterating its claim that the electoral reform should be concluded on May 31.
In a press statement on Monday after the meeting of the Political Council of the Electoral Reform, Oerd Bylykbashi, a representative of the Democratic Party, the largest opposition force in the country, said the majority does not have political will to go ahead with the electoral reform. He launched a public appeal according to which the majority should present its concrete approach because the reform is expected to be concluded by the end of this month. “We insisted to learn on the will of the majority on the proposals of the opposition regarding a major question: the electoral reform should be concluded within May 31, before continuing the deliberations of the commission,” said Bylykbashi, who is co-chairman of the parliamentary commission on the electoral reform together with Damian Gjiknuri of the ruling Socialist Party.
“Gjiknuri’s statements show lack of political will of the majority to carry out a work based on consensus,” said the DP official, who added that the major questions demanded by the opposition are put forward by the OSCE.
Bylykbashi urged that majority should come with concrete stances to the next meeting of the parliamentary commission. “The major questions put forward by us can lead to the final solution. No other issues can be put forward without addressing the fundamental questions. We are ready to go forward,” said Bylykbashi. /argumentum.al
