TIRANA – Showing their ‘teeth’, deputies of parliamentary opposition have made fresh warnings of not voting in favor of the Electoral Reform agreed by the Political Council on June 5 this year.
This group of opposition deputies insists that their demands should be included in the new Electoral System and they are open lists, electoral administration according to OSCE/ODHIR recommendation and emigrants’ right to vote.
As a follow up of their stance they met on Wednesday with Speaker Gramoz Ruci, but they said that they do not give up the proposal on a meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama in order to unveil their proposals to him.
“No one inside or outside of legitimate institutions can mock the solemnity of our vote. We are respectfully waiting for the Prime Minister to respond to our request,” said the head of DP parliamentary group, Myslim Murrizi on Wednesday. According to him, Albania needs an electoral reform rather than a patched one. “I am an MP and as a member of the parliamentary group I represent, I will not vote for the election code if our demands are not taken into account,” he said.
Murrizi and some other opposition deputies also expressed their position to the US Ambassador, Yuri Kim during a meeting last Saturday.
“We told the Ambassador that we won’t vote for any bargain. We demand open lists, or otherwise we won’t vote for reform. Our stance is correct and unchanging: Electoral Administration, open lists and the right of vote to emigrants,” said Murrizi after meeting the US diplomatic envoy to Tirana. /argumentum.al
