TIRANA, November 14 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared in Skopje that a complex infrastructure in order to increase the volume of interaction between Albania and North Macedonia will be created after the construction of the Struga Dry Port.
In the joint press conference with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, at the end of the joint meeting of the two governments held on Monday, Rama focused on the agreements signed between the two countries.
“We have also agreed on three initiatives proposed by the first deputy prime minister, Artan Grubi, which are directly related to the construction of the infrastructure of “Corridor 8”, the construction of a “Dry Port” in Struga and the opening of the first border crossing Struga-Pogradec,” Rama said, adding that these three projects have great strategic importance.
As far as the preliminary project of the “Dry Port” of Struga is concerned, the Albanian government will undertake it within the framework of the agreement it has with the well-known company Royal Haskoning, which has designed the new commercial port combined with the military area of Durrës as well as The Dry Port of Pristina, according to Rama.
The prime minister added that the growth of the volume of interaction between countries was also the primary goal of the Open Balkans initiative, as well as the Berlin Process.
Rama emphasized that the increase in energy prices and war inflation are two weapons being used by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin to destabilize Europe.
The Prime Minister appreciated that extremely strong foundations have been laid with North Macedonia to build a common future in full respect of freedoms, rights and well-being for the next generation.
Focusing on the bilateral relations between Tirana and Skopje, Rama said that they have never been better and are continuously producing results. “The ‘Open Balkans’ initiative has given us the evidence in figures. In terms of imports and exports, there is an increase that is a jump in the trend over the years, this is an important sign of the potential we have to further develop this relationship,” said Rama, who recalled that both countries are in the process of EU membership. /Argumentum.al
