TIRANA – As the Political Council on the electoral reform is expected to convene today Prime Minister Edi Rama has repeatedly called on the extra-parliamentary opposition to attend the meeting.
Through a message on Twitter, the head of government called on the opposition not to boycott the Council meeting.
“Today at 17:00 we proposed through Damian Gjiknur the meeting of the Political Council. I repeat the appeal for the extra-parliamentary opposition not to boycott the Political Council and to continue the tripartite dialogue together with the parliamentary opposition to review the constitutional novelties!” said Rama on Twitter on Wednesday.
In a tit-for-tat reaction Petrit Vasili, the deputy chairman of the SMI, accuses Prime Minister Edi Rama of seeking to ‘tear’ the Constitution because he is afraid of elections.
Vasili said in a note on FB on Wednesday that Rama’s only goal is to break up pre- electoral coalitions.
According to him, the majority seeks to isolate Albania and hinder European integration at all costs.
Earlier on Tuesday evening Oerd Bylykbashi, the representative of the Democratic Party in the Political Council, stated that with Tuesday’s agreement Rama broke the political accord of June 5.
According to Bylybashi, Rama stated that he would tear the June 5 agreement and made it on Tuesday with the new agreement which the DP official considers “a joke”.
Moreover, Bylykbashi recalls how 4 years ago, the amendments to the Constitution for Electoral Reform were approved, which was violated by Rama immediately after its approval.
It remains to be seen the stance of the United Opposition regarding today’s meeting but all eyes have turned again on US Ambassador Yuri Kim and EU’s Soreca. Ambassador Kim had a two- hour meeting with Rama on Tuesday which as it was reported had the latest developments on the June 5 accord in focus. /argumentum.al
