Twenty years after the return of the royal family to Albania the statue of Queen Geraldine was inaugurated on the Boulevard “Zogu I” in Tirana on Tuesday. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the Hungarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Security Policy, Péter Sztáray, Prince Leka Zogu, the World Leader of the Bektashis, Haji Edmond Brahimaj Mondi, citizens etc.
In his speech, the mayor of Tirana, Veliaj said that he feels proud to lead this city, which today respects all those who have left their mark in the country.
The Hungarian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Security Policy, Péter Sztáray, who arrived in Tirana especially for this inauguration, spoke about the excellent relations between Albania and Hungary over the years.
“We are very honored and very happy to be here today. We Hungarians greatly appreciate this friendship that has existed for a long time with the Albanian people. Our history, through the centuries, has shown that we are together and we have always had a good spirit of cooperation from Skanderbeg and Janos Hunyadi until today,” underlined the Hungarian Deputy Minister, Peter Sztáray.
Prince Leka Zogu said that this work of art will beautify one of the central arteries of the capital.
President Ilir Meta announced on Tuesday that he had decided to ask for the cooperation of the Speaker of the Parliament Lindita Nikolla for the creation of the high state decoration “Queen Geraldine”.
Meta wrote on Facebook that this decoration will be in appreciation and honor of Queen Geraldine’s commitment to Albania and that it will be given to women who promote Albania.
Albania and Hungary celebrate the 100th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this.year and a string of activities will be held to mark the event whose prelude started with an event at the Hungarian Embassy in Tirana on Monday. / Argumentum.al
