TIRANA, October 12 – Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama called on the General Assembly of the Council of Europe on Wednesday to drop the charges against Kosovo for organ human trafficking.
The claims of illegal trafficking of human organs in Albania and/or Kosovo were made by the former rapporteur Dick Marty in his Report and the Council of Europe adopted a resolution denouncing them based on the fake document 11 years ago.
“I call on you to accept Albania’s request for the adoption of a resolution calling for a follow-up report on the unproven, shameful allegations of organ trafficking by members of the heroic Kosovo Liberation Army, a crime that has never been committed and it should not have been attributed,” said the Prime Minister.
The approval of this resolution, continued Rama, is neither for the sake of Kosovo nor for the sake of Albania, but it is for the honor and credibility of the members of the Council of Europe.
“Your actions a decade ago have caused in good faith one of the most monumental failures of international politics, an ugly distortion of human rights and human dignity, precisely by acting to support them both,” said Rama.
“Try to imagine (Ukrainian) President Zelensky 10 years later, becoming part of something as surreal as President (Hashim) Thaçi today. Because the Kremlin and Moscow have already started to say that there is activity of organ human trafficking by neo-Nazis in Donbas. So be prepared for that,” said Rama.
“When the truth of an entire nation is distorted in such a terrible way, the only prayer that comes to us is ‘For God’s sake, do not let your previous tragic mistakes become your unforgivable sin,'” Rama said.
The Assembly will not take any decision this year, but, according to reports, it can review the issue next year.
The Parliament of Albania adopted a resolution on July 21, 2022 rejecting the claims made in the Dick Marty Report about the killing of people for the purpose of collecting and selling their organs and the illegal trade of human organs in Albania and Kosovo. The resolution was submitted to the Council of Europe. /Argumentum.al
