After the revelation on the issue of the land swap between Kosovo and Serbia an idea launched by Hashim Thaci and Alexander Vucic presidents of Kosovo and Serbia, respectively, former White House National Security Adviser John Bolton unveiled that Tony Blair, a former premier of the UK, was involved.
Blair, an ex-advisor to PM Edi Rama, was engaged in the Kosovo-Serbia agreement, Bolton said as quoted by some Kosovo portals on Saturday.
“I believe that Serbia and Kosovo must reach their agreement alone. A year or a year and a half ago the expectations for results were very good. Serious Europeans were engaged. Meanwhile, Tony Blair was engaged for the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. I thought something would happen. If I were a National Security Adviser today I would not back down, but today we are not at all like we were then,” said Bolton.
The former senior US diplomat was also quoted by N1 TV as saying that Serbia and Kosovo leaders discussed a possibility of territory swap back in 2018 as an option to solve the Kosovo issue.
According to Bolton, there were indications that the leaders were willing to solve the issue in 2018 because they realized they were unable to achieve a real independent economic development and stability before they normalize their relations.
“It was a controversy in those countries but to me, it seemed worth an effort. One of the things they discussed was a possibility of the territory swap,” Bolton was quoted as saying.
However, he added, this idea caused revulsion in Germany, Western Europe and some parts of the Balkans because they feared the territory swap might lead to an exchange anywhere else, which used to happen in history.
John Bolton’s book “The Room Where It Happened” is the best-selling Trump tell- all in two years, according to week one sales figures. Some 780,000 copies of the book were sold in one week, said US media on Sunday. /argumentum.al
